LED vs LCD Video Wall: Which Is Right for Your Space in the UAE?

By Trianze Tech Team

Choosing between an LED and an LCD video wall? Request a site survey or WhatsApp our AV consultants and we will recommend the right wall for your room.

Choose an LED video wall when you want one seamless image, a large or unusual size, or high brightness, for example a boardroom wall, an auditorium, a showroom or a lobby with daylight. Choose an LCD video wall when people view the screen from close up and need sharp text, for example a control room, a dashboard wall or a meeting room, and when a thin line between panels is acceptable. LCD walls are built from 46, 49 or 55 inch panels with a combined bezel of 0.44 mm to 3.5 mm in our range. LED walls are built from cabinets with no bezel at all, and their sharpness depends on the pixel pitch, from 0.78 mm to 2.5 mm in our range.

How an LCD Video Wall Works

An LCD video wall tiles several commercial panels, typically in a 2x2, 3x3 or larger grid, and a controller or the panels' own daisy chain splits one image across them. Each 55 inch panel is Full HD, so a 2x2 wall of 55 inch panels gives about 110 inches of screen with four times the pixels of a single Full HD display. The visible line between panels is the bezel, and it is the main thing to choose:

Video wall panels are rated for 24/7 operation, unlike consumer TVs, and they mount on push-pull brackets such as the VSYS VSVW13-46T and VSYS VSVW02-46T, so a single panel can be pulled out for service without taking the wall apart. See every panel in our video wall collection.

How an LED Video Wall Works

A direct view LED wall is built from cabinets covered in tiny LEDs. The cabinets join with no bezel, so the image is continuous, and the wall can be almost any width and height. Sharpness is set by the pixel pitch, the distance between LEDs in millimetres: the smaller the number, the closer people can stand. There are two ways to buy one:

LED vs LCD Video Wall: Side by Side

Factor LCD video wall LED video wall
Seams Thin line between panels (0.44 to 3.5 mm in our range) None, one continuous image
Size and shape Multiples of 46, 49 or 55 inch panels Almost any size, built from cabinets
Brightness in our range 500 or 700 nits 600 to 1,000 nits
Sharpness up close Full HD per panel, sharp for text and dashboards Depends on pixel pitch; 0.78 to 1.2 mm for close viewing
Service Swap one panel on a push-pull mount Swap a module or cabinet; many models allow front access
Installation Wall mounts and a controller or daisy chain Flat structure and calibration, or a single all-in-one unit
Best for Control rooms, dashboards, meeting rooms, budget-sensitive walls Boardrooms, auditoriums, lobbies, showrooms, retail

Which One Fits Your Space?

  • Control room or operations centre: narrow bezel LCD for sharp text at 1 to 3 metres, or fine pitch LED (0.78 to 1.2 mm) for a seamless wall. See our control room solutions.
  • Boardroom: an all-in-one LED display of 130 to 165 inches replaces a projector and gives one clean image. See our boardroom AV work.
  • Lobby or reception with daylight: a 700 nit LCD wall, or an LED wall for a large or curved surface. See our digital signage solutions.
  • Showroom, retail or event space: LED, because the size and shape can follow the architecture.

Frequently asked questions

Is an LED video wall better than an LCD video wall?

Neither is better for every room. An LED video wall has no seams, comes in almost any size and is brighter, so it suits large boardroom walls, lobbies and showrooms. An LCD video wall uses 46 to 55 inch panels with a thin bezel between them, gives Full HD on every panel and suits control rooms and dashboards viewed from close up.

Can you see the lines on an LCD video wall?

Yes, a thin line shows where the panels meet. On the narrowest panels we supply, such as the Samsung VH55C-R and LG 55VSH7J-H, the combined bezel is 0.44 mm, which is hard to notice from a normal viewing distance. Panels with a 3.5 mm bezel show a clearer grid. An LED wall has no lines at all.

How bright is an LED wall compared with an LCD video wall?

In our catalogue, LCD video wall panels are rated at 500 or 700 nits, while LED cabinets and all-in-one LED displays are rated from 600 nits (ViewSonic LDP series) to 1,000 nits (LG MAGNIT Pro LSAP012). For a lobby with daylight from a glass facade, choose a 700 nit LCD panel or an LED wall.

Which is better for a control room in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Narrow bezel LCD walls are still common in control rooms because every 55 inch panel shows Full HD, which keeps small text on dashboards and camera feeds sharp up close, and they are rated for 24/7 operation. Fine pitch LED, such as 0.78 mm or 0.94 mm LG MAGNIT, suits control rooms that want a seamless image and can afford the finer pitch.

Does an LED video wall need special mounting?

Yes. LED cabinets mount on a flat, rigid structure so the joins between cabinets stay invisible, and the wall needs power and data planned for each cabinet. All-in-one LED displays such as the Samsung P1.5 130 inch and MAXHUB Raptor series arrive as one complete unit with an integrated controller, which makes installation simpler.
