Video Wall Cost Factors: What Shapes the Budget for LCD and LED Walls

By Trianze Tech Team

Planning a video wall budget? Book a site survey or WhatsApp our AV consultants and we will recommend the right video wall for your room.

A video wall budget is shaped by the technology (LCD panels or LED cabinets), the size, the bezel width on LCD or the pixel pitch on LED, the brightness, the mounting and structure, the controller and sources, and calibration, installation and support. We do not publish prices because every wall is designed for its room, but these factors explain the differences between quotes.

1. LCD or LED

An LCD wall tiles 46 to 55 inch panels with a thin line between them; an LED wall joins cabinets with no seams and can be almost any size. Fine pitch LED generally costs more for the same area. Our LED vs LCD video wall guide compares them side by side.

2. Size and Layout

A 2x2 wall of 55 inch panels gives about 110 inches; a 3x3 wall about 165 inches. Every extra panel adds a display, a mount and cabling. For LED, the width and height decide how many cabinets you need.

3. Bezel Width (LCD)

Thinner bezels cost more but make the grid less visible. Our range runs from 0.44 mm combined bezel on the Samsung VH55C-R and LG 55VSH7J-H to 3.5 mm on the LG 55VL5F-A. See all panels in the video wall collection.

4. Pixel Pitch (LED)

The smaller the pitch, the more LEDs per square metre and the higher the cost. Choose the largest pitch that still looks sharp from the closest viewer; our pixel pitch guide explains how. See LED cabinets and all-in-one LED displays.

5. Brightness

LCD wall panels in our range are 500 or 700 nits; LED cabinets and displays run from 600 to 1,000 nits. A lobby with daylight needs the brighter option; a control room usually does not.

6. Mounts and Structure

LCD walls use push-pull mounts such as the VSYS VSVW13-46T and VSYS VSVW02-46T, which let one panel come out for service. LED walls need a flat, rigid frame and sometimes structural work on the wall.

7. Controller and Sources

A controller or processor splits and arranges content across the wall, and the number of sources (PCs, cameras, players) sets its size. Some LCD panels daisy chain a single source; all-in-one LED displays have a controller built in.

8. Calibration, Installation and Support

Panels must be aligned and colour matched so the wall looks like one image. Walls that run 24/7, such as in control rooms, should have a maintenance contract and spare panels or modules planned.

Ways to Keep the Budget Under Control

  • Use LCD for close viewing of dashboards and text, and LED where a seamless image matters.
  • Pick the largest LED pitch that suits the viewing distance.
  • Match brightness to the room light.
  • Plan power, data and structure early with the fit-out team.

Frequently asked questions

What affects the cost of a video wall?

The main factors are the technology (LCD panels or LED), the overall size, the bezel width on LCD walls or the pixel pitch on LED walls, brightness, the mounting system, the video wall controller and sources, the wall structure, power and data, calibration, and support.

Is an LED video wall more expensive than an LCD video wall?

For the same size, a fine pitch LED wall generally costs more than a narrow bezel LCD wall, and LED cost rises as the pixel pitch gets smaller because more LEDs are needed. LCD walls are a cost effective choice for control rooms and dashboards viewed up close, while LED gives a seamless image at almost any size.

Does a thinner bezel cost more?

Yes, panels with a thinner combined bezel are generally more expensive. In our range the combined bezel runs from 0.44 mm on panels such as the Samsung VH55C-R and LG 55VSH7J-H to 3.5 mm on the LG 55VL5F-A.

Do video walls need special mounts?

Yes. LCD video walls use push-pull mounts such as the VSYS VSVW13-46T and VSVW02-46T, so any panel can be pulled out for service and the panels line up precisely. LED cabinets need a flat, rigid structure.

What else should be in a video wall budget?

Include the controller or processor, the sources and cabling, power and data at the wall, structural work, calibration so the panels match, content setup, training and a maintenance contract, especially for walls that run 24/7.
