Interactive and Multi-Touch Video Walls: How They Work and Which to Choose

An interactive video wall lets people touch and control content on a large screen. There are four practical ways to build one: a single very large interactive display such as the 105 inch LG CreateBoard 105TR5WP; a touch overlay fitted to a commercial display, such as the LG KT-T550; touch-enabled displays tiled side by side, such as the Samsung QM55B-T or LG 55TC3D; or one infrared touch frame across a whole multi-panel wall, sized to the finished wall. Single Large Interactive Display

If the touch area you need is up to about 105 inches, one display avoids bezels completely. The LG CreateBoard 105TR5WP is 105 inches wide in a 21:9 shape with 5K resolution and 50 point touch, and interactive panels from our interactive flat panel range go up to 98 inches. Touch Overlays

A touch overlay turns a compatible commercial display into a touch screen. The LG KT-T550 is an infrared overlay for compatible 55 inch LG commercial displays with up to 10 touch points, USB connection (no separate power adapter), 3 mm anti-glare tempered glass and support for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It suits projects that already have the display or need a specific display model.

Tiled Touch Displays

Several touch displays mounted together give a wall of individual touch screens. The Samsung QM55B-T is a 55 inch 4K display with capacitive touch, the Samsung QM43R-T a 43 inch 4K display with PCAP touch and 10 touch points, and the LG 55TC3D a 55 inch P-cap display with up to 40 touch points. Each screen runs its own content, which suits wayfinding, catalogues and visitor information.

One Touch Frame Across a Whole Wall

For a single shared canvas larger than one display, an infrared touch frame is built to the size of the finished wall and fitted in front of a narrow bezel LCD video wall. One PC runs the touch application across the whole wall. Narrow bezel panels such as the Samsung VH55C-R (0.44 mm combined bezel) keep the lines thin. Things to Plan Before You Buy

  • Touch points: how many people will touch at once; 10 points suit one or two users, 40 to 50 suit groups.
  • Content: touch walls need touch-ready software; one shared canvas needs one PC driving the whole wall.
  • Mounting height: mount so the touch area is reachable, typically lower than a viewing-only wall.
  • Outdoors: use outdoor-rated touch screens such as the LG 55XE3P-B (3,500 nits, IP56, IK10 glass).
