An outdoor screen in the UAE needs three things: brightness of about 3,000 to 4,000 nits to beat the sun, a sealed IP56 rated enclosure with impact-rated glass against dust, sand and rain, and a location planned around heat, because even outdoor displays list a lower maximum temperature in direct sunlight. Heat: Plan the Location

UAE summer temperatures and direct sun are the biggest risk to outdoor screens. Read the operating temperature on the specification: the LG 55XE3P-B, for example, lists up to 50 degrees C without direct sunlight but up to 40 degrees C in direct sunlight with its cooling system running. To keep a screen within its rating:

  • Use shade: canopies, overhangs and covered walkways reduce direct sun on the screen.
  • Choose the orientation: where possible, avoid screens facing the strongest afternoon sun.
  • Keep airflow clear: do not block the display's cooling vents with enclosures or signage frames.
  • Schedule brightness: run lower brightness at night to reduce heat and power.

Dust, Sand and Rain

IP56 means the screen is protected against dust and strong water jets. Outdoor models also use impact-rated glass, such as the IK10 rated tempered laminated glass on the LG 55XE4F-M, which matters in public spaces.

Window-Facing Screens Are Not Outdoor Screens

Window-facing displays such as the LG 55XS4P and Samsung OM46B reach 4,000 nits but sit indoors behind glass. The LG 55XS4P lists 0 to 40 degrees C without direct sunlight and 0 to 30 degrees C with direct sunlight, so shop windows that trap heat need ventilation. See our signage brightness guide.

Do outdoor screens need protective glass?

Yes. Outdoor models use toughened glass rated against impact, for example IK10 rated tempered laminated glass on the LG 55XE4F-M and 55XE3P-B, and IK10 on the Samsung OH75A.
